La Galouyere, Menerbes, Provence

Renovated 19th century house with heated pool near Menerbes

La Galouyere is a very comfortable, refurbished 19th century house with heated pool. The house sleeps 8 people in 4 bedrooms and is set in countryside 2 miles from the beautiful village of Menerbes.

Living Rooms

Downstairs the living room and kitchen are open-plan and commune with the terrace and garden through big openings.

The modern kitchen has oven, 4-ring cooker, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave and filter-coffee machine. There is a dining table in the kitchen, and also one on the terrace just outside.

In the living room are sofas around the fireplace and TV/DVD with French TNT channels, as well as high-speed WiFi internet.

Also downstairs, a separate laundry room with washer, dryer and guest WC.

There are three double bedrooms and one kids' twin room, with three bathrooms. One double bedroom is downstairs. The house sleeps 8 people.

Bedroom 1 (above) is on the ground floor and has a 1.6m-wide bed (5.25ft). The room is full of 19th century charm, as well as an en suite bathroom with shower, double basin and WC.

Bedroom 2 (above) has a 1.6m-wide bed and en suite bathroom with shower, double basin and WC.

Bedroom 3 (above left) has a 1.6m-wide double bed, and bedroom 4 (above right) has two single beds and is best suited for children.

Both bedrooms have access to and share a bathroom with shower, basin and WC. Bedroom 4 also has access up its own stairs from the ground floor.

Garden & Pool

The house is on 1 acre of land and faces south. There is no fence in the furthest part of the garden from the house so it is possible to access the road from there - for this reason the house may not be suitable for young children.

The pool is heated and measures 10m x 4m (33 x 13ft). It is secured with an infra-red alarm system. There are parasols and 8 comfortable sunloungers at poolside.

Terrace with dining table and BBQ. Looking out to the garden from the terrace.

The house has three terraces, one to the side of the kitchen, one in front of the kitchen, and one on the left front of the house which also has a barbecue (above left).

There are two other outdoor eating places, at the stone table in front and under the shade outside the kitchen

There is a gated entrance and secure parking for several cars.

The Location

Menerbes on its hilltop from the north (left) and from the east (right).

The house is 2 miles from the village of Menerbes, and is an ideal location for exploring the rest of the Luberon and Provence. Menerbes has everything you need - cafe, restaurants, bakery, butcher and a small grocery store. Menerbes market takes place on Thursday mornings.

All the other picture-perfect 'perched' hill-top villages of the Luberon are within 15 minutes by car: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Bonnieux, and Goult.

Within an hour are Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux de Provence, Orange, and the start of the Rhone wine trail.

There is a market every day in one of the surrounding villages.

You can make a comfortable day-trip of the Cote d'Azur from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, Marseille, the fishing village of Cassis and the calanques, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, the Alps, the Gorges du Verdon, and the Rhone wine trail all the way to Lyon.

Scenes from Menerbes. There is a well stocked little grocery, bar, restaurants, baker and butcher.

Menerbes holiday

The house is simply exceptional! we stayed with family and had a great time. The villa is quiet while being close to amenities. It is extremely well maintained, there are a lot of accessories (especially in the kitchen) that make the stay "easy". The house, the pool, the garden were clean and very well maintained. The management service of the house is available if needed and they were very nice. I recommend the rental (but not too much because I want to come back! :))

A great family stay in a magnificent property

Beautiful comfortable property with beautiful pool and large garden, located in a beautiful area. Top-quality organization and hospitality. We had a great family holiday, with kids aged 5 to 17. Many things to do: swimming pool, barbecues, pretty villages, markets, vineyards, hiking, ... Avignon, Aix and Marseille at max 1h drive. Again thank you to the owners for this beautiful rental.

Perfect house in perfect location!

We stayed for 2 weeks in August and the house and location could not have been more perfect. It is very quiet despite being next to a road. It is very quick to get to the supermarket in Coustellat or to the wonderful villages such as Menerbes, Goult and Gordes. As other reviewers have commented the house is incredibly well equipped and very well laid out. The first week we were two families and the two separate staircases (one to the 2 double bedrooms) and the other to the children's bedroom helped for very peaceful occupation. The kitchen is well stocked and since the photos a Nespresso coffee machine has been added. The garden is beautiful and though it is apparently open to the road on one side that was not obvious during our stay and the children never went over that side (there are enough prickly bushes to deter them!). The house was spotlessly clean and the cleaners came in the Monday of the second week. The pool was wonderful and as we had 3 young children we were quite happy to spend most of the 2 weeks around the pool and the evenings on the choice of terraces enjoying wonderful BBQs. We wouldn't hesitate to rent again as there is not a single thing we would change about the house!
