L'Arome

"L'Arome is a new restaurant (opened 2007) in Bonnieux, just slightly down the hill from Le Fournil. Le Fournil was closed when we headed to town and L'Arome was the closest open restaurant, so we opted for it, and are ve ryglad we did. It is run by Clara and Jean-Michel.

The waiter that served us unfortunately did not speak English so we muddled our way through the menu and seemed to make it fairly well. There is a 29 euro menu and a 38 euro menu, both offering entrée, main and dessert (three options for each), with coffee and wine extra. The wine menu is comprehensive - expect to spend at least 20-30 euros per bottle.

Lunch was very good. We opted for the 29 euro menu each. There are "safe" dishes and some that are a bit more scary. I tried the Rognon de Veau (calf liver) and it was delicious - the chef is a genius. All three courses were cooked to perfection, and served in a very timely fashion. There are also vegetarian options, along with a large number of "a la carte" options should you wish to deviate from the set menus. Although we did not try any fish dishes (this time), there were a lot to choose from and some French websites speak very highly of them.Total bill for a demi of wine, and lunch for two, came to 83 euros, much nicer than the previous day's bill at Prevot in Cavaillon! We will bevisiting again.

"We arrived near 2pm on a Sunday, after a long walk from Lourmarin, worrying that we were too late for lunch. The hostess, who is the owner (with her husband) was very inviting and the late arrival was no problem.

We opted for the 38 euro fixed price menu. The tasting-of-tomato-dishes appetizer was unbelievably good, with the tomato ice cream being the standout.  The other appetizer was a concassé of aubergines, with a goat cheese foam "capuccino".  Quite clever stuff, and tasty.  One of the mains was young pigeon, which was delicate and perfect (seemingly a cross between chicken and steak), while the rabbit was too heavily salted.

The cooking is quite sophisticated for the price.

"Wonderful restaurant. The food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious.Excellent attention to detail and very friendly staff. I would thoroughly recommend L'Arome for a truly memorable evening."

Jenni, Scotland - 2013
"We enjoyed two wonderful meals at L'Arome during our week in Bonnieux. Both were fantastic. The scallops were fantastic... Some of the best we've eaten. The ambiance is beautiful and the service and presentation were outstanding. This was our favorite restaurant in Bonnieux. We hope to return soon."

Lisette Collier, USA - May 2015
"A beautiful unexpected surprise after a hike between Bonnieux and Lacoste. Sat on the terrace and enjoyed one of the best meals we had in Provence. Pork confit with spring vegetables and pear soaked in red wine. Outstanding!"

Kath, Australia - 2015
"The service was friendly and attentive; the food was good, but not outstanding. The pork confit would have benefited from a little more flavour and was pricey at 31 Euros."
