I’ve found that sometimes vacation venue’s do not live up to the website pictures. NOT in this case!! In fact if you take in account the ambiance of the villa, the pictures do not do it justice. It was amazing. To make things even better, our hosts, Paul and Susie went out of their way to make sure that our visit was better than we hoped. I recommend this villa to anyone wishing to visit this gorgeous part of the world and I hope to return.

PAOLO'S VIEW: “Fabulous designer living in the Luberon, a luxury lodging with its own lavender field”

The Location
The house is in a country setting 2.5 miles (4km) from the village of Bonnieux. Bonnieux is one of the most beautiful Luberon villages and one of the best-served by faces and restaurants, ranging from simple to Michelin-starred. The very picturesque Bonnieux market is on Friday mornings. Bonnieux is stunning to look at on approaching, perched above the vineyards of the Luberon valley, but also a perfect Provencal village on the inside, with architecture and winding streets dating to the middle ages. Bonnieux has fantastic views to Lacoste to the west, Mont Ventoux to the north, and the Luberon mountain to the south.

Close by are other beautiful, perched, hilltop villages: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Menerbes, Goult, etc. all within 15 minutes. From Bonnieux you are by the cleft in the Luberon mountain that gives you access to the south side: more gorgeous villages like Lourmarin, Cucuron, Ansouis and Cadenet to explore, 20 minutes away, and beyond these, the fine city of Aix-en-Provence.

A Mas reborn in the Luberon!

Rated 5 out of 5
22nd August 2025

We spent a wonderful week at this beautifully restored Provençal mas that was once a lavender farm. Wim and Sabine spent five years restoring it with great care, preserving its character while adding all the modern comforts. From the pool and the many terraces in the garden, views stretch across the lavender field to Bonnieux and Lacoste. Evenings bring golden light, and at night the stars are strikingly clear.

It’s a perfect base for discovering the Luberon—if you can pull yourself away. Susy and Paul, the caretakers, are always nearby ready to help or give advice… and every morning, the Provençal basket on our door held a baguette, croissants and/or pain au chocolate… We loved every minute of our stay…

Not suitable for families

The area is nice, but this is not a villa that sleeps 10 plus 4 children – this is a series of 5 apartments which may suit 5 couples, but if you hire the entire thing, then prepare for walks outdoors, through courtyards, around buildings, to get to all the individual bedrooms. This simply does not work if you are a family, who doesn’t want the children sleeping in your bedroom – unless you are comfortable with them being locked in different buildings at night?? This is really not clear when renting the entire place in July and August. There are much better options nearby (this was the 4th time in the area, and we wish we had not tried something different)

Magnificent maison

We usually avoid guest reviews; however, this wonderful place deserves any recommendation it gets.

Our week was most pleasant and relaxing, we liked the well-designed rooms as well as the looked after fabulous white roses all over the place. Thanks to the sunny weather we took advantage of the many places around, and the pool for relaxing. We had a heart-warming welcome and support from our hosts whenever needed.

Leaving this magnificent house leaves everybody with regrets at not having another week, the holiday was the closest we ever experienced to being perfect.

In deepest desire to return sometime.
