A calming retreat in the Luberon
My wife and I have been to David and Karen’s oasis in the Luberon four times now and are looking forward to a return. The gite is well appointed with everything you require for your stay and if something is missing David and Karen do their best to find what you need. You can tell they are proud of what they have established in the Luberon and care for it as well as their guests. In appropriate weather it is a very pleasant experience to have breakfast on the small terrace or an evening meal if you are so inclined.
Their gardens are beautiful and the infinity pool is a treat with its small pool house, umbrellas and lounge chairs to spend a quiet afternoon.
The village of Saturnin-les-Apt is small but full of treasures to explore. The sloping hilltop leading to the Chateau ruin is quite remarkable as a walk but also a sight from the distance punctuated at the bottom with a moulin (mill). The village contains all you need in terms of restaurants, groceries and boulangerie.
If you are unsure of what you want to do David and Karen have a complete list of local sites to visit, restaurants to try, bike routes to explore and much more.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoy our time spent in their holiday rental.
St-Saturnin-les-Apt is a typical Luberon village with lots of character but few tourists. Its streets are full of intriguing architecture and ornate doorways, as well as several restaurants. St Sat, as the locals call it, has the usual village essentials - church and ruined castle on high - and more practical considerations like a weekly market (Tuesday mornings), municipal pool, tennis courts and public boulodrome, and all the amenities you would need to live within the village. Then there is the huge Saturday market in nearby Apt, the region's biggest, which is a weekly rendez-vous point for villagers.
All the other picture-perfect, 'perched' hill-top villages of the Luberon are within 30 minutes by car: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede-le-vieux, Bonnieux, and Goult. In the other direction is the wilder Luberon and lavender country round Simiane-la-Rotonde, Banon and Sault. The market town of Apt with its supermarkets and year-round buzz is 7 minutes away. Within 80 minutes are Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Arles, St-Remy, Mont Ventoux, Les Baux-de-Provence and Marseille.
Included in the rates: utilities, bedlinen, towels, WiFi internet, after-stay clean. For stays of 2 weeks or more there is a weekly change of bedding and towels.

A perfect peaceful retreat; a lovely location; and great hosts!
Our 5th visit to David & Karen’s lovely gites, and we have already booked our next visit! We love the infinity pool, and enjoy the evening aperos overlooking it. The small town of St Saturnin is about 10 minutes walk away, where there are some excellent restaurants and cafe’s as well as a really good butcher and two boulangeries. There are many lovely hill towns, with interesting markets, within a 35 minute drive of St Saturnin. David & Karen will always give advice on where to go, and will happily book restaurants for you. This year, we found David’s App a really useful addition, with a mine of information.
