Our week spent here was easily one of the happiest of our lives. The place is quite magical you feel far away from everything else. Thank you for creating such a peaceful respite.

While we got out and about the highlight really was lounging by the lavender field with a glass of wine. We cannot imagine a more perfect spot in the Luberon, we hope to be here again real soon.

PAOLO'S VIEW: “Designer living in the Luberon - this is a unique contemporary 1-bedroom apartment with shared pool”

The Location
The property is in a country setting 2.5 miles (4km) from the village of Bonnieux. Bonnieux is one of the most beautiful Luberon villages and one of the best-served by faces and restaurants, ranging from simple to Michelin-starred. The very picturesque Bonnieux market is on Friday mornings. Bonnieux is stunning to look at on approaching, perched above the vineyards of the Luberon valley, but also a perfect Provencal village on the inside, with architecture and winding streets dating to the middle ages. Bonnieux has fantastic views to Lacoste to the west, Mont Ventoux to the north, and the Luberon mountain to the south.

Close by are other beautiful, perched, hilltop villages: Gordes, Roussillon, Lacoste, Oppede le vieux, Menerbes, Goult, etc. all within 15 minutes. From Bonnieux you are by the cleft in the Luberon mountain that gives you access to the south side: more gorgeous villages like Lourmarin, Cucuron, Ansouis and Cadenet to explore, 20 minutes away, and beyond these, the fine city of Aix-en-Provence.

A very special place

Rated 5 out of 5

From the moment you enter the grounds, you know you are in for something special. You are greeted by the scents and sounds of roses, lavender, linden, songbirds and by the delightful hosts, Sabine and Wim.

The property has a story that goes back hundreds of years. It has been lovingly restored to balance the ancient Provençal flavour with modern conveniences. The antique fireplace and staircase in our suite were beautifully juxtaposed to the modern fully equipped kitchen and bold artisanal furnishings from across Europe (check out the remarkable light fixtures!). Two sinks and two shower heads in the glassed shower and a delightful soaker tub are in the ample bathroom. Thought has gone into every item on the property which is lovingly yet discreetly maintained.

The pool is perfectly situated for all to enjoy and delightfully warm. The pool towels are thick and lush. In the pool you can enjoy a view of the hilltop town of Bonnieux. At night, the Marquis de Sade’s castle is lit up across the valley.

There is a separate laundry room with a modern washer and dryer for guests to freshen their clothing. An iron and ironing board are also provided. There is a large communal fridge and a separate freezer for guests to use apart from what may be in your room.

A welcome package provides you with market dates of surrounding villages, activities, grocery stores, restaurant recommendations and more. This is a very concise and complete document and very helpful in planning your stay.

This is a perfect location to visit Les plus beaux villages de la région. We visited the markets in Gordes and Lourmarin, canoed between Fontaine de Vauclose and Isle sur la Sorgue, biked 50 km along the Vélo route de Cavelon (our hosts arranged for bikes to be delivered to us at the Mas),meandered through Bonnieux, LaCoste, Menerbes, Goult and spent a fabulous half day at the Château la Coste winery and art gallery. The Colorado Provençal hike was dazzling as was our time visiting the ochre in Rousillion. Sainte Saturnin was a delightful surprise. There are so many hillside villages to explore.

All this was very accessible from the property. Returning each day to an inviting pool, beautiful gardens and of course, a glass (ok-bottle!) of Provençal rosé made this week delightful. You will have a most glorious time at the Mas des Sens.

The delightful caretakers, Susie and Paul, have been at the property for over 13 years. They attended to all of our questions and needs; made restaurant reservations, arranged bikes, grocery shopped to stock our fridge for our arrival. We understand they are retiring and we are so grateful for all they did to make our trip seamless and worry free.

We have travelled to over 50 countries and this is my favourite part of the world to return to. We have been to the Luberon area five times and this will certainly be where we return to ‘next time’. À la prochaine.

We recently had a wonderful seven night stay at Suite Bonnieux. The peaceful setting was very relaxing; from the tastefully decorated suites to the thoughtfully planned gardens, everything was exceptional. Wim and Sabine have created ‘a slice of heaven’ in Provence. We highly recommend them to any traveller.

I don’t know how we can put in words what a beautiful experience this has been! The grounds, the accommodations, the cleanliness, the privacy, the decor, appliances and layout of our ‘villa’, the amazing heated saltwater pool, the beautiful personalities of the owners and caretakers, the location…it’s all just so unbelievably special and we feel so lucky that we were able to find this absolute gem and experience a week here!
